1418 Performs Well at The Battle O'Baltimore
On Friday morning, part of the team left to go up to the Battle O'Baltimore at The Park School in Baltimore, Maryland. That afternoon, the team had time to do several practice rounds so that the new drive team could get practice driving with other teams.
When the team arrived at the school on Saturday morning, they looked at the other teams to see what their partners and opponents would be like. After a review of the new rules, the qualifying matches started. The first couple matches the team lost, but about half way through them the team started to win them. After all of the qualifying rounds were finished, the team was placed eighteenth out of 24 teams. Before the lunch break started the top eight seeded teams got to pick their allaince partners. The first round of picks the teams got to pick their first partner. The second round was done via a random lottery. Team 1418 ended up being on the fifth seeded allaince with team 888 and team 1719, which was the team hosting the event.
After lunch was over, the alliance got together to determine how we should play the game. We decided that we should let team 888 knock the balls off of the over pass so that team 1719 and could help us stop the other allaince from knocking their balls off. Once they got around us and knocked their balls off though we just tried to score as many points as we could by crossing the lines. Towards the end of the matches, if the other alliance got their balls off, we would try to knock them off. This plan worked very well in the quarter finals and the simi finals. We never lost a single match.
In the finals though, our plan did not work. The other alliance's robots were a lot stronger and faster than ours. All of their robots could also hurdle, and only one on our alliaince could hurdle really well. The first match that we played in the finals we lost by 20 points. The second match we played in the finals, we lost with a score of 100 to 40.
